This is worth the read for a giggle at our expense! SPA was fun. Well done to Lewis Hamilton. Although watching a F1 live is awesome for the atmosphere you are the last to find out what is happening! But then the fun began. We got in on our bikes and had made it around 3/4 of the very long and hilly perimeter, but then we got our tickets checked and were told "next time no bikes". At this point we found we were outside the circuit. To get round the next bit on a general admission ticket it seems you have to go out the circuit, round the corner and then back in another exit, so guess what, yes, they wouldn't let us take our bikes in, so we had to leave them and go in on foot. That was fine but we wanted to get back to our car park which was a 1/4 of a circuit away. The steward said "just follow the road", he didn't sound convincing and we tried to show him Google maps to show it wasn't possible. He said it was. The fun really began. Down a road, up a road, but then guess what, it's a dead end of a track. We follow the forest, so close yet still so far, no way through the fences. So we ended up doing a full on mountain bike style cruise through the forest, down steep ravines, then had to clamber down an 8 ft vertical embankment to cross a shallow river to scramble back up and then Google Maps tantalising us to show we are so close but the car park is still through a massive wildly overgrown thicket on a massive slope. Bearing in mind we have 2 bikes, rucksacks, camping chairs and umbrellas, I think we did a masterful (or epic as Sophie would say) adventure to get back. Total journey about 5km across rough terrain and rivers, certainly good practice for our Sahara trek (tell you more soon).
Certainly deserved the beers and choccie biccies we have just scoffed!
